History of Blackjack

Blackjack begain in France in the 18th century and made its way to the USA.

With the advent of computers and sophisticated counting machines, mathematics began to be applied to blackjack in the second half of the 20th century.

In 1962 Professor Edward O. Thorp developed and refined basic card counting strategy. He published a book called "Beat the Dealer".

In the 1970's computers were helping players so casinos changed the game from a single deck game to multi-deck.

Over the years blackjack has evolved into the game of choice from kids playing nickel and dime stuff to millionaires wagering thousands on a single bet.

In recent times poker seems to have overtaken Blackjack as the number one game of choice. There was a time when you saw celebrity Blackjack and wild Blackjack tournaments. People clamoring over Blackjack systems and trying to come up with the latest Blackjack strategy.

Yes Blackjack is now playing second fiddle to Poker but there still is a place for the classical card game. Blackjack tournaments aren't as big as poker tournaments but there is still huge appetite for them.

As is there for working on Blackjack strategy and Blackjack systems.
