The basic strategy only applies when between 12 and 16 otherwise your decision is pretty much made up for you. You are definitely going to hit when less than 12 and afterwards would be a mad man to do so.
All depends on what the dealer has. When you have 12-16 you should hit if the dealer is between 7-11 and stand if he is less than 7. There is as much a chance as this working out as not so be careful.
If you have an Ace, double if you are on 17 or less and the dealer has a 4-5.
Some basic Blackjack advice you can live by:
- Never double when less than 8.
- Always double on 11 and double on 10 if the dealer has 2-9.
- Never split 4's, 5's or 10's.
In the Plus or Minus system a value is assigned to each card of +1, zero or -1 as follows:
- 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace = -1
As each card is dealt on the table the player keeps a running count, adding 1 if the card is a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, and subtracting 1 for each 10-value card or Ace dealt.
When the running count is a positive figure the player has an advantage and bets high. When the running count is a negative figure they bet low.
